I was in Steve's music the other day and I was looking at amps (Looking I have zero money) and I came up with two I think would work:

Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier 50watt head

Marshall JCM (something) It's a sixty watt head

What do you guys like Amp wise???

I like more subtle well defined distorsion so I am more of a Marshall or Fender guy

I tend to lean toward amps with more gain and punchy drive channels (aka, Peavey 5150). Choosing between Marshall or Mesa in general, I would choose Mesa amps. But the JCM is one of the higher quality Marshalls out there, I believe.

It's all up to your personal preference.. but make sure you test amps with YOUR guitar before you buy em.. AND (if possible) your speaker cabinet.

What tubes are in the 5150???

Are they 6L6's or EL34's??

I probably have the weirdest response; I like amps with no extra settings on it, preferably just Bass, Mid, and High. I really rely on my pedal for my guitar sound, and create all my own effects. We have a nice Roland Jazz Chorus amp but I hate using it, instead I use a large Roland amp that I believe is for keyboards, and just has those three basic settings that I like; the sound I get with it is the best! :tunes:

12AX7s and 6L6s in the 5150 head man. Killer gain.
The Carvin Legacy head uses EL34s, it has really good tone. But the overdrive sounds a lot better on the 5150.

Yeah, I've said this before.. I try to push my playing as far as I can without any effects.. the 5150 doesn't even have reverb on it... Just Pre and Post Gain, low, mid, high EQs, and presence and resonance :)

Have you ever heard of Diezel before ibanez, their more of a boutique amp

Korn use's them as well as a lot of guys who need really hard tone. They are a pretty pricey head kinda like a Pittbull or an Ubershall

Sounds intriguing.. But I'm satisfied with the 5150/Legacy Cab combo. All the gain i need from the amp, and all the warm tone i need from the cab :)

That is a sweet setup man!!! I wish I could afford somehting like that, of course I don't really need a amp that big (I really play mostly acoustic)

But I do want to start an old school motorhead like thrash band with some guys from school, so gain is a nessesity

Quite a transition there, going from acoustics to 'old school' thrash :)

We've been using a mesa in the studio for about a year now. It holds up pretty well during shows too. So I'm pretty much sold on mesa right now.

I'd also go with Mesa. ALthough they are pretty expensive, the tone is excellent. It probably better to just play both of them in the store than to ask other people what they prefer. Everyone prefers something different. That is why there are so many different kinds of amps in the first place.

i use two diffrent types the first is a laney....NO THEY ARE NOT BUDGET AMPS
toni iommi has used laney all his life and he definatly has an awsome guitar sound. the other one is a marshall tsl 100w all valve head 4x el34 and
4x ecc83 valves. the laney is a 120w head and its seriously loud with bags of tone but the marshall is probably the best amp ive ever used its just gt so much tone and power. so my answer would be marshall,,,,,,until i find somthin better!!!!
