Most roland ready guitars don't use roland gk pickups
they use transducer pick-ups like fishman.
The signal response is better....

Recently I purchased an Ernie Ball guitar (evh model sans
the neck work)
I love the tone and I love the response of it.
I want to make it Roland ready.

Here in lays the problem.
I tried mounting an old gk roland pick-up to it.
It sucked...The pick-up works great mounted to my
strat...but not the EB

So I'm debating on if I should pick up a roland GK3 pick-up
or get the same setup used on switch and godin guitars.
The killer is....
Where the Hell does one find kits for the transducer pick-up
so it's roland ready?

Did you use the same pickup that you had on your Strat on your Ernie Ball? You said an "old GK Roland pickup" - how old exactly? I know I've tried moving pickups from one guitar to another and I've always had problems, that could be it.

Personally, I'd go with the GK3 pickup, one of my friends had a guitar with it in the studio and it sounded excellent.

What setup(s) are you referring to with the Switch and Godin guitars?

Godin guitars have transducer pickups...as opposed to hex configuration
like roland.

I've played a few of the godin's with rmc customized pick-ups
I think I like this one the best

oddly I have a godin pre acoustcaster it's a LR baggs model
I've permanently mounted my gk2a on it and the response is great

gk2's were released a long time ago and while they share the same
controller as 2a's and same 13pin connector they don't have the same
response.
Still on the Strat it's more then manageable and fits perfectly on the pickgard.

When I had aligned the pickups for the gk to on the eb....(which is guess work at
best because of the way the pick-up appears) I went thru several attempts to
bring the pickups closer to the strings for good signal response...
Spent about 6 hours trying to get..the closest position then adusting the string
hieght and intonation. It still wasnt' getting a good vibration from the string to
calibrate the sensitivity.

afterwards I was frustrated and reset the action and intonation on the eb
removed a "plate" I used for sheathing.
then played around with the gk on my strat...
Perfect setup from word go.

I again tried my hand at positioning it on my eb. unforutnately I'd destroyed the
only mounting sheath so it sat way too low....
I tried things like double stick but because the mount wasn't secure
I've got a feeling that the pickup needs to be firmly in place instead of floating
in order to coax tone from the bodies resonance and the actual string vibration.

yeah...I'm debating. because you should be able to mount a third party pick-up
and run the wiring inside so you don't have that box sitting on top of the axe

There are lots of third party systems now to choose from...

I figured out what was happening with the gk2

It's because the pickups were mounted to close to
the bridge to read a signal response from the strings.
the path of the vibration wasn't wide enough.

I noticed this after I posted.
as an experiment I slid the pickup between the two humbuckers
the signal returned.

Now for the arduous task of resetting my action and intonation
to where I had it before.
