Do you want to record? or do you want to set up drum/bass loops to play along with?
Cause for recording you have: Protools, Cubase, Euendo and Logic
For Loops: Reason, Hailion and Fruity Loops (Reason is the best in my opinion)

Mostly for practising but it would be good to record one day.
I have looked at the Boss DR 880 and it sounds a bit cheesy but its easy to operate.
i really want to be able to input a key, progression and style and get jamming.
I use riffworks from line 6 at the moment but its very limited.

Well man all I can tell you is that MIDI sequencing or working with loops is your best route.
